The Great British Beer Festival (GBBF) is teaming up with the MS Society for this year’s event to raise funds and spread awareness of multiple sclerosis.

The charity will host an awareness table where festival-goers can play games such as beer pong and pitch ‘n’ putt in a bid to raise awareness of MS symptoms, which affect mobility and vision and make every day a challenge for sufferers.

MS Society volunteers will also be scattered around the event, which is being held at Olympia, west London, from 8 to 12 August, to speak with attendees and manage collection tins.

This isn’t the first time the charity and the festival have collaborated; during the 2013 event more than £12,000 was raised throughout the week.

Terrible condition

GBBF organiser Ian Hill outlined how the iconic event has helped the charity previously and the importance of the MS Society's work.

He said: “The MS Society was a hit with festival-goers a few years ago so it’s great to welcome them back.

“We’re delighted to support the vital work they do raising awareness of MS and supporting those affected by this terrible condition.

“GBBF is one of the biggest, most exciting and well-known events in the beer world, and a great opportunity to raise money and secure support for such a worthy charity.”

Incredible support

MS Society area fundraising manager Mark Haynes highlighted how being part of big events such as GBBF helps the charity to raise awareness of the debilitating illness.

He said: “We’re hugely grateful to be joining the GBBF as their chosen charity partner.

“More than 100,000 people live with MS in the UK and opportunities like these help us provide vital support and drive innovative research into more and better treatments for everyone.

“We received an incredible amount of support from festival-goers in 2013 and we are looking forward to another year at the festival.”
