Sharp’s brewery has announced the limited release of a California common-style beer.

Dawn Patrol is Sharp’s third limited release in 2017, following on from Two Tides and Rye Rock earlier this year.

Brewed using Northern Brewer hops and fermented at a higher than usual temperature, the beer has a firm bitterness, balanced out by malty, toasted caramel flavours.

As with previous releases from Sharp’s Brewery, 5p from every pint of Dawn Patrol sold will be donated donated to the Blue Flag charity, which works to keep beaches safer and clean. Over the past two years, Sharp’s Brewery has donated £28,000 to the Blue Flag charity, which has funded applications for all the Blue Flag and Seaside Awards in Cornwall.

'New tastes and styles'

James Nicholls, senior brand manager at Sharp’s Brewery, said:  “This latest limited release is the first California common-style ale in our portfolio, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to experimenting with new tastes and styles.

“Our limited releases prove very popular with our on-trade stockists and consumers alike, and we look forward to introducing this latest brew.

“At Sharp’s we are proud supporters of the Blue Flag initiative, a charity that is very close to our heart as the beaches and coastline are very important to us."

A style revived

Originally brewed in America during the mid-19th century, the California common style was revived by Anchor Brewing in the 1980s, and has become increasingly popular with smaller craft breweries in the UK.

Dawn Patrol is available across the on-trade throughout mainland UK until the end of August or until stocks last.
