Turnover of largest pub groups continues to outpace inflation
The average turnover of the 50 biggest pub companies in the UK is continuing to outpace inflation.
UK inflation last week hit a four-year high of 2.7%, but research from business finance supermarket Funding Options showed that turnover at the UK’s biggest pub operators is growing at a faster rate.
The figures showed that accounts filed up to the end of March 2017 saw the turnover of the 50 largest pub operators rise from £10.26bn to £10.6bn over the past year – an increase of 3.3%.
The 10 largest pubcos, including JD Wetherspoon and Greene King, saw the most pronounced growth, with turnover for these companies increasing by 3.5%.
The next 40 largest companies, which includes Admiral Taverns and Laine Pub Company, saw growth rise slightly slower. The total turnover of these companies rose 2% from £1.42bn to £1.45bn.
