Charity chairman demands apology after pub ejection

Peter Quinn is a cancer patient and chairman of Charity Aid, a volunteer group that has raised thousands of pounds for various charities.

He has claimed the duty manager of the Welkin in Liverpool, asked him to leave the pub for “touting”, which he denies he was doing.

Quinn added: “[The duty manager] said he was calling the police. I asked for a private discussion with him and he refused."

Ejected from the premises

He said: “I asked for his name and he refused. He said he had CCTV footage of me touting, which was not possible."

“He took up his phone and said he would ring the police so I said I would wait for them, which I did and 10 minutes later, I asked the duty manager how long it would be before the police arrived, he then ejected me from the premises.”

Quinn added JDW has written back to him twice stating he was on the pub’s CCTV, "touting" for charity.

The charity volunteer also claimed he only spoke to two people who, he said, had offered to act as witnesses against Wetherspoon.

Fully investigated

JDW spokesperson Eddie Gershon said the pub group had stood by the pub and its decision on asking Quinn to leave.

He added: “Our customers services team fully investigated the complaint by Mr Quinn.

“The fact he received correspondence on two separate occasions from us highlights how seriously we took the situation.

“We fully back the decision by the pub’s manager.”
