London-based pubco the Craft Beer Co has secured a new site in the city’s Limehouse.

The new venue previously traded as the Railway Tavern but will reopen as the Craft Beer Co Limehouse in late October this year after an extensive refurbishment.

The pub is just yards from Limehouse Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station, is owned by pubco Punch Taverns and will be operated by the Craft Beer Co under a free-of-tie agreement.

'Edgy' area

Founder and MD of the Craft Beer Co Martin Hayes said: “It’s a smaller site than our others but it has a lot of character and it’s in an area that’s edgy, I like that about it.

“We’ll have 10 cask beers on tap, 20 keg beers and a wide selection of bottled and canned craft beer, along with a wide range of wines and spirits.”

History

The pubco originated in 2011 by Hayes and school friend Peter Slezak in Clerkenwell, central London, where the first site in the city included 16 beer cask lines and 21 keg taps along with more than 200 bottles.

From here, the group widened its horizons to the coast and a site in Brighton opened in 2012 before going back to its roots in London in the same year with venues in Brixton and Islington opening their doors.

In 2013, the Clapham branch opened followed by Covent Garden in 2014 and St Mary Axe in November 2015.

In March this year, the Craft Beer Co’s ‘Craft 100’ beer festival returned to its Clapham venue in London which featured more than 80 cask ales and 20 keg beers where more than 10,000 pints were drunk.
