Punch has announced the return of its free drinks promotion in partnership with Carling, Stella and Rekorderlig Cider.

More than 900 pubs will take part with 80,000 pints available to give away, the promotion will run from today (Friday 12 May) to Monday 29 May.

All Punch licensees who sell Carling, Stella or Rekorderlig had the opportunity to register for the promotion, developed to help operators increase footfall over the bank holiday and strengthen their business offer.

Customers can redeem their free pint through a simple process via their smartphone by visiting www.freedrinkpubs.co.uk.

Hugely useful tool

The page will indicate which Punch pubs are running the promotion and lets customers download a digital voucher to redeem a free drink at the bar.

Punch category manager Stephen Martin lauded the return of the promotion following its success last year, which saw 850 Punch pubs offer free pints to its customers.

He added: “This promotion is a hugely useful tool for publicans to reach out to their current customers, surrounding communities and attract new business.

“Last year, an overwhelming 99% of Punch licensees [of the 153] surveyed said they would definitely take part in a similar activity again so we are hoping this year will prove more popular than ever."

Last drink of the long weekend

Martin added: “The end of the promotion coincides with the bank holiday, so we can see customers visiting their local to have their one last drink of the long weekend.”

Meanwhile, Dutch brewer and pubco Heineken is set to takeover Punch this summer after the bid was backed by shareholders.

The proposed takeover would boost the number of sites operated by Heineken to 3,000 pubs.

Punch contacted its licensees to tell them the sale of its 1,900 pubs is expected to be completed by the end of August.
