Historic gastropub the Falcon Inn in Fotheringhay, Peterborough, is on the market with Christie & Co for £1.4m.

The pub, which has been under the ownership of a businesswoman for the past 10 years, was put on the market with the Ipswich branch of Christie & Co at the start of 2017.

Currently the Cambridgeshire venue features in the Michelin Guide, the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide and has also been named the Good Pub Guide’s Northants Dining Pub of the Year for six years in a row.

Gastropubs are currently in rude health, a rising trend seen on The Morning Advertiser’s Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs 2017 list release this week.

Category’s growth

Almost half (24) of the gastropubs on this year’s list were new entries, a sign of the category’s growth.

Christie & Co said: “The Falcon has been owned by our client since 2007, having previously operated the business.

“During this time, the property has benefited from continued investment and continues to build upon its fine reputation locally as a very good food-led pub, set in a picturesque village.”

The agent goes on to say there is further scope to enhance the property, with opportunities to develop the area and buildings adjacent to the pub’s function room.

Christie & Co added: “The business would now ideally suit an owner-operator looking to acquire a rare freehold property in this affluent catchment area.”

Top 50 Gastropubs

At the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs on 30 January, Andrew Pern’s Michelin-starred pub the Star Inn, Harome, North Yorkshire, was crowned the best gastropub in the UK, taking the spot from Stephen Harris’s Sportsman in Seasalter, Kent.

Pern said: “It's the third time we've been number one on the list and I've had my eye on it ever since we lost the top spot.

“The Star Inn is my life and the food we serve is a reflection of the seasons, as well as the great produce found in Yorkshire.

“It’s such an honour to be crowned the number one gastropub in the UK.”
