A Draycott licensee has taken his kit off with another member of staff and customers in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

A customer from the Coach & Horses pub came up with the idea as the village had previously produced a calendar but wanted to do it with a twist this year.

Pub regulars were involved in the process of making the latest calendar and licensee Mark Gilliver said the aim was to raise £1,000 by selling 200 calendars.

Locals have welcomed the fundraiser and printing costs were covered by sponsorship.

Really good community

Gilliver said: “Feedback has been pretty good and we have sold around 150 calendars so far in about 10 days, with local businesses helping to sell them.

“Businesses covered the costs, meaning the whole of the sale prices can be donated to the charity. We have a really good community, so the calendar fits in with it.”

Part-time barman Luke Hogan also participated and was Mr January while Gilliver was Mr June.

Close to the heart

He added: “If your customers are doing it, you have to!

“I was hoping someone else would step in, but they didn’t.”

The pub chose the charity as it was something close to the licensee’s heart.

He said: “My dad died a couple of years ago from cancer and one of my school friends has just been diagnosed, so it is something that affects everyone.”
