Department store John Lewis claims it opened Britain’s smallest rooftop pub last week capturing “all the charm of a favourite watering hole” whilst boasting panoramic views of London.

Measuring just 6ft by 8ft the Gardener’s Arms sits above John Lewis’s flagship Oxford Street store, offering respite from the hustle and bustle of Britain’s busiest shopping street below as part of its pop up Gardening Society rooftop area.

The snug little den only allows space for one member of staff but anyone with a thirst won’t be disappointed as it is surrounded by its own garden.

It will be serving a mixture of wine, bottled beer and cider, including Sharp’s Doom Bar, Tepache Pineapple Cider, plus a selection of refreshing summertime cocktails such as the ‘Background G+T’ with Beefeater gin, Lillet Blanc, peach bitters, thyme, and pink grapefruit tonic.

Including the pub within the rooftop garden was part of the aim of designer Tony Wood - previously awarded RHS National Young Garden Designer of the Year – to “encapsulate all things we love about the British summertime”.

The Gardening Society and the pub itself provide customers with somewhere to “enjoy with friends, whether they're popping up for a bite to eat or a quick drink and a catch up”, he said.

The rooftop garden is filled with plants and herbs sourced from every corner of the British Isles, including wild garlic and blackberry bushes, to “encourage guests to feel at home”.
