Pub football tournament offers sport and site makeover prizes

Prize: the finalists will compete at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium

BT has launched a pub football tournament that is open to anyone over the age of 18 who wants to represent their local pub or any licensees who want to put a team together.

The winners of the free-to-enter BT Sport Pub Cup will collect a cash prize and a BT Sport subscription plus for their pub, as well as £5,000 for the licensee to invest in the pub.

Contest organisers will choose 16 teams at random to take part in qualifying matches at Queens Park Rangers’ Loftus Road and Everton’s Goodison Park in May. The initial matches will be seven-a-side, increasing to 11-a-side for the final.

The final will take place at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium in north London on 23 May. David James and John Hartson will each manage a team with Harry Redknapp presenting the winning team with the trophy.

BT Sport director of commercial customers Bruce Cuthbert said the tournament represented a chance to “give something back to our BT Sport customers”.

Pubs interested in entering the tournament need to be a BT Sport customer and can enter online here.
