Licensed Trade Charity's annual golf tournament raises £16,000 for charity

The funds were raised from both local sponsors of regional heats and entry fees for the tournament, with the money going towards supporting those working in the pub industry faced with illness, housing problems or financial difficulty.

Liz Gaffer, director of marketing at the LTC, said that the involvement of local breweries had been key to the development of the annual event: "In the last couple of years we've really engaged regional sponsors, which has helped us to grow it. It's just so great to have the regional brewers involved in something national like this."

One of these sponsors was Black Sheep Brewery from Yorkshire and managing director Rob Theakston echoed the LTC's sentiments on the involvement of local brewers. "Having taken part as a sponsor and learnt about the work of the LTC in supporting employees in pubs and breweries, it’s good to see so many regional brewers getting involved," he said.

A business development manager for Black Sheep Brewery was in fact the captain of the winning team at last week's final that took place at Archerfield Links Golf Club in Scotland. Bradley Elsworth captained the winning fourballs team that was also made up of Simon Gaskell, Andy Lawrence and Bruce Kennerly, who are all keen amateur golfers from Bedale Golf Club. "What a fantastic day and great for Yorkshire to win," Elsworth said.

The team from Yorkshire beat off competition from the other eight fourballs teams that had qualified for last week's regional finals to secure the trophy for this year.
