Big kick off: the new Premier League season starts this weekend

Tonight (Friday 11 August) sees the new Premier League season kick off at the Emirates Stadium as Leicester City visit Arsenal.

The action comes to a climax at the London Stadium this weekend but there's plenty of gold medals still up for grabs. The women's long jump and 200m final will be decided tonight (Friday) while tomorrow (Saturday) sees Mo Farah and Usain Bolt are set to make their final track appearances in the 5,000m and 4x100m finals respectively. Sunday will see as many as 11 gold medals won, including the men's high jump, women's 800m, men's 1,500m and the tournament-closing 4x400m men's and women's races.

The opening weekend of the 2017-18 Premier League season continues as Watford host Liverpool at Vicarage Road (kick-off 12.30pm).

Brighton begin life in the Premier League against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at the Amex Stadium (kick-off 5.30pm).

Rugby: Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017 England v Italy (Sunday 13 August, 2pm – 4.45pm) — ITV1
ITV offers coverage of both teams' second Pool B contest, held at Billings Park in Dublin. England are the defending champions, while Italy have qualified for the first time since 2002 (kick-off 2.30pm).
