Police have praised a pub for agreeing to take immediate steps to “reduce disruption” following a fight in which four people were injured.

Regional news website Kent Online said two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a row at the premises on Saturday, 8 April 2017.

Following the incident, Kent Police requested an expedited licensing review for The Talk of the Town, in The Promenade, Leysdown-on-Sea, Kent.

At the hearing, which took place in Swale Borough Council’s council chambers on Thursday (13 April), the pub’s representatives agreed that plastic glasses will be used at the premises after 6pm.

Other measures include putting Security Industry Authority staff on duty on any evening where there is entertainment scheduled for the day, improvements to the venue’s CCTV and record keeping facilities, and limited use of pool tables during the evening.

A second licensing review will take place in early May, the police said, which will look into whether any further action is needed.

Workingtogether is the key

Inspector Garry Brimson said: “We are pleased with the outcome of the review and that the premises supervisor has offered to take immediate steps to ensure that there is no repeat of the disorder.

“We were able to work together with the pub and agree with these interim steps.

“We believe these will help to promote public safety and prevent crime and disorder, however, we will continue to monitor the situation.”

The Morning Advertiser contacted The Talk of The Town, but has not yet had a response.
