Greene King claims it has worked hard to keep its prices competitive after being accused in The Sun of increasing the price of beer sold at its pubs by as much as 11p per pint weeks after the 1p-per-pint reduction in beer duty.
A Greene King spokesman told the Publican’s Morning Advertiser: “We understand the pressures faced in households across the UK during this prolonged economic downturn.
“We have worked hard to keep our prices competitive by reducing some of our best sellers in many of our pubs, continuing to hold prices in others, pegging any increases as low as we can and delaying the planned annual increase in March for draught beers.
“As a result we remain one of the best value pub retailers with some of the keenest pricing in the sector.”
